Center for Advanced Endoscopy
Tacoma Digestive Disease Center in partnership with St. Joseph Hospital has
developed a center of excellence in the diagnosis and treatment of liver,
biliary, and pancreatic disorders.
This center which is directed by Dr. Carrougher was conceived in 2001 and is
dedicated to state of the art treatment and endoscopic intervention into complex
gastroenterologic disorders normally referred to large university medical
centers.
Dr. Carrougher performs endoscopic ultrasound which is state of the art
technology that is vital for accurate cancer staging and diagnosis as well as
other disorders.
This represents a significant expertise in this field for Tacoma, and Tacoma
Digestive Disease Center is proud of this accomplishment.
Northwest Swallowing Center
In 1997 Dr. Lyons of Tacoma Digestive Disease Center had a vision to bring to
Tacoma the expertise to evaluate and treat difficult disorders of the esophagus
and problems relating to swallowing.
In the traditions of Army academic gastroenterology, he had exposure during his
training to a world renown esophagologist and brought this insight to us. The
result is an academic center that brings together surgeons, speech therapists,
gastroenterologists, radiologists and ear nose and throat specialists to discuss
difficult cases and provide high level expertise to treating such individuals.
The Swallowing Center has also sponsored world-renowned speakers for educational
seminars here in Tacoma.
Dr. Lyons is joined by Drs. Hirota, Carrougher and Priebe -- all from Tacoma
Digestive Disease Center -- to compliment the gastroenterolgic support of the
center.
Additionally, Dr. Hirota has developed special training and interest in
endoscopic treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease which we feel has
particular advantages over surgery and medical therapy in some patients.
The center accepts referrals from primary care physicians throughout the
Northwest.
