JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION:   Nurse Manager

STATUS:    Exempt, Regular Full-Time (40 hours per week)

SUPERVISED BY:  Chief Operating Officer

PRINCIPLE PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:  Employees of Tacoma Digestive Disease Center (TDDC) will support the goals, values, philosophies and objectives of TDDC.  Employees will adhere to policies in the TDDC employee handbook.  Employees will support the delivery of quality care and function as an integral member of the patient care team.

PRINCIPLE PERFORMANCE STANDARDS: 
1. Maintaining a professional image in behavior, attire, presence, and communication with patients, families/significant others, vendors, other healthcare professionals, and staff while remaining polite and respectful.
2. Displaying flexibility and cooperation in meeting the needs of the organization by attending and participating in the continuous quality improvement program, staff/team meetings, and by assisting others to accomplish their goals and any other assigned tasks.
3. Exhibiting discreet and ethical conduct in maintaining patient and employee confidentiality.
4. Meeting attendance requirements.
5. Understanding role and responsibility in emergency situation and responding appropriately.
6. Assuring the equipment is in proper working order and is used in a safe and correct manner.
7. Participating in continuing education to maintain professional growth and development.

JOB SUMMARY:
A registered professional nurse, certified in gastroenterology, responsible to the Clinic Manager, who works to coordinate the overall operation of the clinic and endoscopy facilities. Responsible for the planning, organizing, coordinating and supervising of the delivery of safe and effective nursing care as established by the TDDC policies and procedures.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current Washington licensure for registered nurse.
  • Current certification in gastroenterology nursing preferred.
  • Annual CPR certification.
  • Biannual ACLS certification.
  • Annual TB testing.
  • Current Heptavax vaccination or record of declination.
  • Membership in SGNA.
  • Possesses thorough knowledge of endoscopy safety and technical requirements.
  • Possesses skills in assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating and supervising.
  • Able to establish an effective working relationship with people.
  • Understands the organizational structure, philosophy, goals, procedures and policies of the Center.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Administratively responsible to the clinic manager.
  2. Maintain an environment in the endoscopy center and office conducive to the physical, mental and emotional well-being of patients, family and staff.
  3. Orients and trains all personnel under her supervision.
  4. Coordinates activities with any ancillary services, for example lab, pharmacy, hospitals, nursing homes, vocational and nursing schools.
  5. Assigns and monitors performance of nursing tasks for all staff under her supervision.
  6. Coordinates with office staff, staffing needs, vacations and requested time off.
  7. Coordinates continuing education for personnel.
  8. Attends all manager and staff meetings.
  9. Writes and updates procedure and policy manual.  
  10. Collaborates with Human Resources and the Clinic Manager to recruit, interview, hire, train, and discharge nursing staff.                 
  11. Evaluates nursing personnel and counsels on a timely basis.
  12. Acts as a primary contact source for questions that require responses on medical equipment, technical issues, and risk management.
  13. Organizes ordering and inventory process for medical equipment.
  14. Remains current in continuing education.
  15. Oversees projects involving facility operation and maintenance.
  16. Performs the technical procedures required by the patient need assignment without causing harm and consistent with her own scope of practice and with the practice setting’s legal constraints.
  17. Maintain the GI unit’s endoscopic equipment, accessories and supplies to insure proper use, functioning and infection control.
  18. Initiates the actions to insure continuity of effective care before, during and after patient’s contact with the practice setting.
  19. Participates in the TDDC/TEC/HEC Quality Improvement Program and insures staff involvement.
  20. Reviews payroll/timecards.
  21. Completes appropriate personnel paperwork.
  22. Works with the Clinic Manager to ensure accreditation of facilities.
  23. Monitors utilization of TEC/HEC.
  24. Collaborates with the Medical Director as necessary.
  25. Performs other duties as assigned.
